Your policy sets the requirements

Match the inspection to your insurer’s request

Commercial insurance requirements vary by policy and facility. Your insurer may request an electrical infrared inspection, a particular inspection interval or proof that identified deficiencies have been repaired.

Share the request with us before booking. We confirm the equipment scope, access, normal operating load and report requirements with you. Your insurer decides whether the documentation satisfies your policy.

A report you can act on

  • Equipment identification and inspection coverage
  • Thermal and visual photos of findings
  • Severity, observations and recommended action
  • Inspection conditions and any access limitations
  • Certificate documentation where included in the agreed scope

Before you book

What to send us

  • The insurer’s letter, email or risk-control recommendation that asks for the scan
  • Your renewal or compliance deadline
  • Site addresses and an access contact for each
  • An equipment list or approximate count of panels, switchboards, MCCs and transformers
  • Normal operating hours, so the scan is done under representative load

We use the request to agree the scope, report format and any certificate in your quote, before the visit is booked. If your deadline is close, tell us the date when you enquire.

When the scan finds problems

Anything urgent is reported to your site contact before we leave. The full report usually follows within 10 business days, with each finding graded by severity and a recommended action, so your electrician can fix the most urgent items first.

If your insurer asks for proof of repair, keep the repair records with the report, and ask us about a follow-up scan of the repaired equipment.

Who does the inspection

Aviva’s inspection guidance (opens a new tab) recommends a qualified thermographer with at least Level 1 certification. Our inspections are carried out by Level II thermographers.

What is a hot spot worth?

Downtime exposure calculator

Every electrical failure has a price: lost production, emergency call-outs, damaged equipment. Use your own numbers to see the exposure an annual infrared inspection is protecting.

Cost of a single failure$40,000downtime cost × outage length, before repairs and parts
Annual exposure at your failure rate$26,667failures per year (last 3 years ÷ 3) × cost of a single failure

Thermography finds the loose, corroded and overloaded connections before they open under load. Many commercial insurers ask for an annual infrared scan. See whether yours does.

Insurance inspection questions

Does every insurer require an annual infrared inspection?

No. Requirements vary by insurer, policy and facility. Some ask for a yearly scan, others for a one-time inspection or proof that deficiencies were repaired. Your insurer’s request is the reference we work from.

Will my insurer accept the report?

Your insurer decides whether the documentation satisfies your policy. Sharing their request before booking lets us match the scope, report and certificate to it.

How does the Aviva discount work?

Tell us you are an Aviva customer when you request a quote, and the 10% discount is included in the quote.

What if my deadline is close?

Tell us the date when you enquire. The scan needs equipment running at normal load, so we plan around your operating hours, and the report usually follows within 10 business days of the visit. The quote confirms the dates we can offer.
